Betrayed by a Friend
Written: ~1000 BC→Fulfilled: ~AD 30
David's lament about betrayal by a close friend was fulfilled in Judas Iscariot's betrayal of Jesus.
Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Psalm 41:9
"Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread, has turned against me."
New Testament Fulfillment
John 13:18
""I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: 'He who shared my bread has turned against me.'""
Commentary
Jesus explicitly quoted Psalm 41:9 at the Last Supper, identifying Judas as the fulfillment. The phrase "shared my bread" is particularly poignant given the context of the Passover meal. Jesus had just broken bread with Judas moments before identifying him as the betrayer.
