Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Genesis 49:10
"The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his."
New Testament Fulfillment
Luke 3:33
"the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah."
Commentary
Jacob's prophecy is remarkably precise: the scepter of kingship belongs to Judah until "Shiloh" (a messianic title meaning "he to whom it belongs") comes. Jesus's genealogy in Luke 3 traces his lineage through Judah.
