Written: ~700 BC→Fulfilled: Ongoing
Isaiah's Second Servant Song promised that the Servant would be a light to the Gentiles, fulfilled in the global mission of the church.
Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Isaiah 49:6
"He says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.""
New Testament Fulfillment
Acts 13:47
"For this is what the Lord has commanded us: "I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.""
Commentary
Paul and Barnabas quote this verse to justify their mission to the Gentiles. Simeon also quoted it at Jesus's presentation in the Temple (Luke 2:32). The global spread of Christianity fulfills this promise of salvation reaching "the ends of the earth."
