Resurrection & AscensionClear Fulfillment
The Resurrection Foretold
Written: ~1000 BC→Fulfilled: ~AD 30
Psalm 16 promised that God's Holy One would not see decay, Paul's sermon in Antioch identifies this as a resurrection prophecy fulfilled in Jesus.
Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Psalm 16:10
"Because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay."
New Testament Fulfillment
Acts 13:35-37
"So it is also stated elsewhere: "You will not let your holy one see decay." Now when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. But the one whom God raised from the dead did not see decay."
Commentary
Paul's argument in Acts 13 parallels Peter's at Pentecost: David died and his body decayed, so Psalm 16:10 must refer to someone else. The resurrection of Jesus, with his body not seeing decay, is the only fulfillment that satisfies the prophecy.
