Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Isaiah 29:18; 35:5
"In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see... Then will the eyes of the blind be opened."
New Testament Fulfillment
John 9:1-7
"As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.""
Commentary
Jesus's healing of the blind was not merely compassionate acts but deliberate messianic signs. The healing of the man born blind in John 9 is particularly significant: no one had ever healed someone born blind, making it an unprecedented sign. Jesus explicitly connects it to "the works of God" being displayed.
