Darkness at Noon
Written: ~750 BC→Fulfilled: ~AD 30
Amos prophesied supernatural darkness at noon, fulfilled in the three hours of darkness during the crucifixion.
Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Amos 8:9
""In that day," declares the Sovereign Lord, "I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.""
New Testament Fulfillment
Matthew 27:45
"From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land."
Commentary
Amos's prophecy of midday darkness was fulfilled in the three hours of darkness that covered the land during the crucifixion. This was not a solar eclipse (impossible during Passover, a full moon) but a supernatural sign accompanying the death of the Son of God.
