Eternal Priest after Melchizedek
Written: ~1000 BC→Fulfilled: ~AD 30
Psalm 110 prophesied an eternal priesthood after the order of Melchizedek, the book of Hebrews extensively develops this as fulfilled in Jesus.
Prophecy & Fulfillment
Old Testament Prophecy
Psalm 110:4
"The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.""
New Testament Fulfillment
Hebrews 6:20
"Where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
Commentary
The Melchizedek priesthood was superior to the Levitical priesthood (Hebrews 7) because Melchizedek had no recorded genealogy and received tithes from Abraham. Jesus, as a priest after this order, transcends the limitations of the Levitical system and offers eternal intercession.
