Commentary
Jesus quoted Zechariah 13:7 at the Last Supper, applying it to himself as the shepherd and his disciples as the sheep. The fulfillment came hours later when "everyone deserted him and fled" (Mark 14:50). The prophecy also implies the resurrection: "I will turn my hand against the little ones" suggests the shepherd's restoration.
