Commentary
Jesus quoted Zechariah 13:7 on the way to Gethsemane, applying it to himself and his disciples. The fulfillment came hours later when all the disciples fled. The prophecy also contains a note of hope: "I will turn my hand against the little ones", suggesting the shepherd's restoration and the regathering of the flock.
